I bought the Cuisipro Apple Corer because my 3 year old loves apples, but refuses to eat them sliced, and it's almost impossible to remove an apple core without hacking up the entire apple.
It works perfectly. The serrated edge (at the tip) allows you to easily puncture the apple, and a quick twist allows you to pull the entire core out. The corer opens, letting the core drop out--no digging it out with a pen or other instrument.
Also, there's a 25 year warranty offered by Cuisipro--takes 30 seconds to fill out a form online and you are set in case of breakage or other problems.
The price is a little high for just an apple core, however, it is well crafted, not flimsy metal. You don't have to worry about breaking/bending this on a hard Granny Smith. Well worth the price, in my opinion.

I'm generally opposed to uni-taskers, but I also hate quartering and then coring apples for whatever use I plan. This tool is magic! Not much pressure needed to punch through granny smith or other hard apples and back out it comes to be released smoothly. I find myself thinking of baked apples for dessert tonight, something I've wanted but just didn't work with a plain paring knife or by quartering. It may sound silly to be so excited over a cooking took, but I really believe that cooking should be fun and this tool is fun!

At least twice a year I make a ton of Waldorf salad and a couple of apple pies. I peel, halve, third each half and then pare out each piece of the core. My brother has one of those little hand crank machines that peel, core and spiral cut all for around 35 bucks. I just didn't want one more thing to dig out just once or twice a year and I'm not crazy about the spiral cutting. This corer works great. Now I core (it takes just seconds) peel and simply cut up. The peeling and cutting is a breeze with the core out! The size is perfect even for big apples, the core pops out with ease and the boring teeth are sharp enough that with just a little twisting very little pressure is needed. Very pleased with this purchase.
